Description: This two-hour course is intended to provide an overview on fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) and the related guides on design, specification, and practice. New developments in the materials technology and field experience have expanded the applications of FRC with time/cost savings and improved long-term performance. New guides from American Concrete Institute (ACI), Steel Deck Institute (SDI) and International Code Council (ICC) will be discussed. This course can be benefited by civil/structural engineers, plan examiners.

Instructor: Amir Bonakdar, PhD, PE

Amir Bonakdar is the business development manager for Euclid Chemical in the Western United Sates. He has a master’s degree in structural engineering from the University of Tehran (2006) and a PhD from Arizona State University (2010). After graduation, Amir served as an engineering instructor and researcher at the university, working on the state-of-the-art research on fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) and concrete durability. He joined Euclid Chemical in 2013 and has been an active member of ACI, PCI and ASTM. He is a committee chair for ACI 544 (FRC) and has chaired a new design guide ACI 544.4R-18. He is an active member of ACI 201 (concrete durability) and a voting member of ACI 360 (slabs on ground). He has been involved with design and specification of several projects from concrete mix design to fiber reinforcement and concrete repair.
