THE POSITION:  Solano County is recruiting to fill a journey level Code Compliance Officer position which will conduct investigations, field inspections and analysis as necessary for the administration and enforcement of County ordinances and State codes governing housing, planning, and building violations and abandoned vehicles.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Two years of experience comparable to a Planning Technician, a Building Permits Technician or two years of investigations work relating to law enforcement or the enforcement of housing laws, codes and regulations. AND

  2. Vocational/technical course work in the building trades.  All candidates must submit a copy of their college transcripts (verifying the courses and units completed).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California Driver's License is required (prior to employment).

  • Must pass a physical examination as a condition of hire.

  • Independent travel is required (Use of a County vehicle is allowed for travel from the primary work location for authorized work related duties).

  • Incumbents primarily work in the field, rather than in an office.

  • Candidates for positions in this class will be required to pass a background investigation in accordance with applicable law, regulations and/or policy.

The City of Dixon is recruiting to fill one full-time, permanent, mid-management position in the City’s Community Development Department. The ideal candidate should be able to plan, organize, direct and coordinate the activities of the Building Division to ensure the enforcement of City building regulations; to coordinate building activities with other departments, division and outside agencies; and to provide highly complex assistance to the Community Development Director. Will direct supervision over assigned supervisory, professional, technical and office support personnel.

Applications are invited from qualified persons who possess the knowledge and abilities to perform the job. A typical way to obtain such knowledge and ability would be:

Education:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Additional college coursework in public administration, planning, plan checking, and/or building inspections techniques, principles, and practices are desirable. Bachelor’s degree with major course work in public administration, business administration or a related field is highly desirable.

Experience:
Five years of increasingly responsible experience in building inspection, building construction, plans examination, land development, or other related work, including two years of supervisory responsibility.

Other Requirements:
Possession of a Building, Plumbing, Mechanical or Electrical Inspector Certificate by the International Code Council (ICC) or other approved certifying organization. Multiple certificates are highly desirable.

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within twelve months after employment, a certification as a Building Official by the International Code Council (ICC) or other approved certifying organization.

  • Possession of a valid ICC Plans Examiner Certificate is highly desirable.

  • A valid California Driver’s License, satisfactory driving record, and proof of automobile liability insurance are conditions of initial and continuous employment.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years design experience on Power Plants, Water and Waste Water Treatment Plants, Industrial Facilities, Buildings.

Qualifications: Working knowledge of California and national codes preferred. CA registration required.

Duties: Code compliance and design review of power generating facilities including combined-cycle natural gas plants and state-of-the-art renewable power plants such as wind turbine and solar, buildings, industrial and municipal facilities.

Work Location: Engineers will work in Sacramento on statewide projects. May consider Engineers working from Southern California. Building Inspector positions are available in Northern California, San Francisco Bay Area, Central California and Southern California.
