Minutes of
the
November 3, 2006 Meeting
President
Larry Leonard
called the meeting of SVABO to
order at Carlton Engineering Inc. in Shingle Springs. Rick Julian led us in the
flag salute. Self-introductions followed. We were welcomed to Carlton
Engineering by Alan Carlton, President of Carlton Engineering, Inc.
The October
minutes were approved as submitted.
Treasurer Report
Mark Wood
The Treasurers Report was approved as submitted.
Education Committee
Nancy Springer
The
committee held a meeting on October 17th with 8 in attendance and at
that meeting the Mission Statement was created. “To promote training
opportunities resulting in professionalism and uniform code application for safe
efficient and accessible communities”.
Mike Holt
is teaching the Grounding and Bonding class and we have 91 registered for
Wednesday and 98 for Thursday. We are able to accommodate 300 but are looking
for at least 150 per class.
Congratulations to Nancy for a 1 year position on the ICC Education Committee!!
The next
meeting will be December 6th at the SVABO office.
Inspector’s Program
Rick
Swenson
The
Inspectors finished there first Photovoltaic systems training and the next class
will be sometime in February. The next Inspectors training will be on December
14th 2006 at the Simpson facility in Stockton. If you are interested
in attending please e-mail Rick for reservations, the next class will be January
10, 2007 at Simpson.
Scholarship Committee
Robert O’Keefe
The committee met to evaluate applications for the 2006 Bob Stoddard Scholarship
and to consider the need for program improvements for 2007.
The Scholarship Committee received five applications during the
application period of August 1 through September 30, 2006. All five applicants
met the eligibility criteria by being Building Inspection Technology (BIT)
students and members of SVABO. The committee used a worksheet to independently
score each application.
The results were totaled and after some discussion, the following
awards were made.

$1,000 is to be awarded to

$750 is to be awarded to Eugene

$750 is to be awarded to Olaf
Olsen of Cosumnes
River
College

$500 is to be awarded to David
Chapman of Butte College
The applicants will be notified of the results in a letter signed
by the Chairperson. They will be invited to receive a Certificate of
Scholarship Award at our January 12, 2007 meeting.
The committee submitted recommended changes for the Bob Stoddard
Scholarship to Board for program improvements for 2007.
Plan
Review Committee
Paul Klein
The last meeting of the Committee was October 25, 2006 we had 14 in
attendance. The response to the previous months question was low. The
committee is refocusing on producing more of a yes or no kind of question so
that we may have a more consistent response. The committee is also in process
of created a letter that will go out to the Building Officials to update our
spokespersons list so that we can have more accuracy in getting the questions
out to who we would like responses from.
Next
meeting will be on November 29, 2006 at the SVABO office.

CALBO
Larry Leonard for

California Building Standards Commission is hosting there final code adoption
meeting on January 16-17, 2007.
CALBO is
requesting nominations for the 2006-2007 awards for the following, Building
Official of the year award, CTI Education award, Hall of Fame award, Industry
Achievement award and Building Department of the year award. It would be great
to have someone from the chapter nominated for any one of these awards. The
deadline is February 2, 2007 but we will discuss it at the January SVABO
meeting.

League of California Cities
Pete Guisasola
CALBO is
working with the League of Cities to open up a couple of more committee member
positions. Interested persons should send a letter of interest to CALBO. The
League of Cities is an organization that consists of governmental individuals
that meet to discuss State issues related to local government.

Rick Julian of Placer
County announced that Bob Martino has been appointed the new Building Official.
Larry
Leonard announced the Contractors caring for kids toy drive on Saturday December
9th from 12-4 at the Roseville Sports Complex. If you would like
more information or to volunteer the number is 916-978-9600.
