Treasurer’s
Report:
Approved as
submitted.
ONCE AGAIN
Tom Trimberger was unable to attend our meeting (conflict
with the CALBO Board meeting) and the entire membership present voted
unanimously to impose a $25 fine on top of the $5 fine from last meeting.
Brett Hale said that he would be collecting donations throughout the
meeting. No report on how successful
his effort was.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Education:
Becky
Fraser reported that the next class is scheduled for September 10th
and 11th in Roseville.
Doug Thornburg will present Means of Egress I/II.
Permit Technician I will be presented on December 3rd and
Permit Technician II will be presented on December 4th.
The next meeting of the committee will be October 2nd at 2 PM in Roseville.
Rick Reid reported that Simpson Strong-Tie will present an
inspectors education program on January 8th and February 12th
of 2004. The location will be
determined as we get closer to the dates.
Plan
Review/CRDC:
Larry Leonard reported that those attending last week’s meeting made
progress toward standardizing a format for emailing code questions.
They also discussed R3 conversion to B occupancies and accompanying
requirements. The committee will be contacting other jurisdictions regarding
their practices and make them available to the membership.
Finally, the issue of auditoriums and exiting was discussed. Research
with the State Fire Marshal’s office will follow.
These meetings are regularly scheduled for the last
Wednesday of the month so the next meeting is August 27th at noon for Plan Review and 2:30 for CRDC in Roseville. Following
this schedule, the September meeting will be on the 24th.
Larry and Kevin will both attend the ICC code hearings in Nashville.
CALBO:
Mike Rodriguez received a letter from Don Spivey, president of the
Yosemite Chapter of ICC, regarding their hosting of the upcoming 2005 CALBO ABM.
Don requested our contribution to their efforts.
After the rousing presentation on this upcoming ABM by Greg Lamb of the
Yosemite Chapter, the Association voted unanimously to contribute $7,500.
Old Business:
None
New Business:
Brett Hale announced that
the new pins are available and urged everyone to pick theirs up
at the front table today. Brett
also reported that we have arranged a meeting for the evening of October 14th
with the BIT students and instructors at Consumnes
River College. He
hopes for a good turnout of Association members to support this important
program and urges all who are interested in attending to contact him at Brett.Hale@yolocounty.org.
Announcements:
Mike Rodriguez read a letter
from Tom Trimberger, our Association Treasurer and CALBO Board Member, with his
perspectives on the code adoption process. First
among Tom’s list of 10 major points is that nothing that happened was
unexpected. The remainder of the points can be summarized in Tom’s urging us
to not give up, don’t panic or despair. As
he says, nothing has been finalized. KEEP
THE FAITH.
PROGRAM:
The
program consisted of a presentation by Simpson Strong-Tie introducing us to
their company and products. We saw
an excellent video produced by Simpson for contractors and field supervisors
instructing them and their crews on the proper uses of the Simpson products.
We also saw an impressive video on Simpson products’ performance in
simulated (but very realistic) seismic situations.
The presentations were capped off with lunch and a tour of their
manufacturing facility.
NEXT MEETING:
The
next meeting will be on October
3, 2003 at The Depot in Oroville.
The program is
FEMA Technical Bulletin 11-01 -
CRAWLSPACE CONSTRUCTION
FOR BUILDINGS LOCATED IN SPECIAL FLOOD HAZARD AREAS
presented
by
Jerry Bare with State DWR and
Henry Chau with FEMA. We will also
be updated on the ICC ABM.
RSVPs
should be directed to
Ruth at 530-538-7541 or mvieira@buttecounty.net.
ADJOURNMENT:
The
meeting was adjourned after the Simpson facility tour.
Respectfully submitted.
