Treasurer’s
Report:
Approved as
submitted.
Tom Trimberger reported that the IRS has forgiven the
$8,000 non-filing penalty they originally assessed us.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Education/Scholarship:
Becky Fraser reported that the recent electrical classes
were a success. There were 55 in
attendance for the first day, which was geared toward residential applications,
and 53 attended the second day geared toward commercial applications. September
and December classes are still pending.
The committee has revised the evaluation form and Becky
feels that this should give us more valuable information for planning future
classes. The next Education
committee meeting will be on May 29 at 2
pm in Roseville.
Becky also reported that the Jack Atkins Memorial
Scholarship application period is open through May 31, 2003.
Anyone who is a member of ICC or a member of that person’s family is
eligible to apply for the awards. There
is one $1,000 award and two $500 awards.
The application is on our web site. The
scholarship committee will meet on June 3 to determine the winners.
Gene Paolini reported that Pete Guisasola just completed
the second presentation of his “How to Read the Matrix” class.
There were about 50 at each class. The
next classes are May 8 in Sacramento
and June 12 in Rocklin on “The Anatomy of a Perfectly Engineered Swimming
Pool”. Upcoming classes in
September and October will be presented By Simpson Strong-Tie.
Plan Review/CRDC:
Kevin Reinertson reported that12 people attended the March 26th
Plan Review committee meeting. The
CRCD met immediately thereafter and discussed the NFPA code hearings in May and
the ICC code hearings in September. The
next meeting for both is April 30th, noon
for plan review to be followed by CRDC. Larry
Leonard reported that the Executive Board decided to fund the costs of sending
two Association members to Nashville to represent the Association at the ICC
code hearings.
HCD:
Kevin Reinertson updated us on the Code Enforcement Grant Program.
The deadline for applications was April 4th and there were
about 150 received. The review
process has begun but it is slow. Regarding
the California code adoption cycle, Kevin reported that the
Building Standards Commission will be receiving individual reports from the 14
state agencies indicating which codes they support.
This will occur in June. After
that, there will be one year to amend the codes followed by another year of the
code adoption cycle. We could
possibly see a new code in about 2 ½ years. The scheduled Building Standards
Commission meetings are posted on their web site.
Phase 2 of the Chapter 11A rewrite is undergoing its
final review. The entire chapter
will be sent out for review within the next six weeks and more meetings will be
scheduled. Stay tuned for phase 3.
Kevin also urged everyone who received a recent survey from CALBO on
Chapter 8 of the NEC to complete and return it.
This information is important to HCD.
CALBO:
Tom Trimberger reported that state code adoptions
and education are the current points of focus for CALBO.
The League of Cities Housing sub-committee recently voted overwhelmingly
to support the ICC. However, the
executive board for the League of Cities declined to take a position at this
time.
